Obama Administration: Public health will suffer without climate action now

In Pakistan, where temperatures soared above 100 degrees for days on end, more than 800 people died in the recent heat wave. And the same could happen here. A newly released report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), describing the public health implications of climate change, versus climate action, offers two different visions of our future: in one, 2,600 people just in the major cities in the Northeast, from DC to Boston, die due to extreme temperature in the year 2100, compared to 190 if mitigation actions are put into effect now. Now consider that number increasing to 12,000 deaths annually in just 49 US cities due to extreme temperatures, if there are no emission reductions....

Daily Camera at 125, still instilling the 'breath of progress into Boulder County'

On March 17, 1892, exactly one year after its first issue, The Daily Camera — that upper-case "T" was official — published an editorial celebrating and conflating its aims with those of an Irish icon: "Today is the anniversary of St. Patrick and The Daily Camera. St. Patrick died several years ago at a ripe old age, while the Camera still lives and today starts upon its second year about as healthy a child as can be found in the Wild West," the editors wrote. "St. Patrick had a mission on earth and well did he fulfill it. ... The Daily Camera also has a mission, and in its humble way is striving to instill the breath of progress into Boulder County." A century and a quarter...

(Source: The Heritage Foundation) May 23, 2016 | Backgrounder on Regulation By James L. Gattuso and Diane Katz The Obama Administration is responsible for an unparalleled expansion of the regulatory state, with the imposition of 229 major regulations since 2009 at a cost of $108 billion annually (using the regulatory agencies' own numbers). The actual costs are far greater, both because costs have not been fully quantified for a significant number of rules, and because many of the worst effects-the loss of freedom and opportunity, for example-are incalculable. The need for reform is urgent. The White House, Congress, and federal agencies routinely breach legislative and even constitutional...

(Source: The Heritage Foundation) No matter one's personal opinions on the climate effects of man-made greenhouse emissions, the Obama Administration's proposed climate-change regulations will exact a high price on Americans and have a negligible impact-if any-on global temperatures. The EPA has already put into place several greenhouse-gas regulations; however, the most far-reaching regulations are set to be finalized this summer. Known as the Clean Power Plan, these regulations have garnered bipartisan concern at all levels of government due to the threats the Clean Power Plan poses to the economy, quality of life, reliability of the national power grid, and constitutional separation of...
